Upgrade your staircase with the rare visual character and superior stability of quartersawn hardwood. The 2.5" Quartersawn White Oak Stair Tread brings natural character and lasting strength to any staircase — whether you're building new or refreshing an existing set of stairs.
At a refined 2.5" thick, the tread's solid engineered core is clad in a Quartersawn White Oak hardwood wear layer on all 6 sides, delivering stunning face grain from every angle — never edge grain. A 1/8" roundover on every edge completes the refined, finished look. The 2.5" profile strikes a precise balance between visual weight and restraint — substantial enough to anchor the design, understated enough to let the wood's natural character lead.
Why Quartersawn White Oak?
Quartersawn White Oak is the most visually distinctive cut in fine hardwood production. Its distinctive medullary ray fleck — the silver-streaked figure that emerges only when White Oak is milled perpendicular to the growth rings — set against a neutral gray-tan ground gives every tread a depth and artisanal quality that no other species or cut can replicate. With the quartersawn milling process, Quartersawn White Oak is significantly more dimensionally stable than its flatsawn counterpart — resisting cupping, warping, and seasonal movement with greater consistency. Combined with White Oak's natural hardness of 1,360 on the Janka scale and its resistance to moisture, the result is a tread that performs as exceptionally as it looks. The ray fleck pattern is never identical from board to board — making every Quartersawn White Oak tread a singular expression of the material.
