Poplar is a fine-grained hardwood with a smooth, consistent surface that excels as a paint-grade option, delivering a flawless finish when painted. Its light green-to-cream coloring and even texture make it an ideal substrate for custom color schemes. While softer than oak or maple (Janka 540), Poplar is a cost-effective choice for painted staircases where a perfect, uniform surface matters most. Available in standard widths of 36”, 42”, 48”, 54”, 60”, and 72”—or specify a custom size—with an 11-1/4” depth that meets code.
