The handrail is the most-touched element of any staircase — and the 5600 Hard Maple Handrail treats it accordingly. Hard Maple brings a bright, precise surface and outstanding wear resistance to the handrail — the hardest and lightest of the widely available domestic species. Milled in the 5600 profile and finished in genuine Hard Maple, this is a handrail built to perform and to be noticed.
The 5600 is the shaped handrail — distinguished from the rectangular profiles by its flat bottom and gently rounded top, a cross-section that settles naturally in the hand and provides an intuitive, comfortable grip on every pass. At 2-5/8" wide and 1-7/8" tall, it carries enough visual mass to feel substantial without reading as heavy. The radius top softens the profile's presence, bridging traditional craftsmanship and contemporary application — at home on baluster-based stairs, cable and rod railing systems, and wall-mounted installations alike. Where the 6000-series profiles make a precise, architectural statement, the 5600 offers warmth and approachability without sacrificing refinement. The 5600 is manufactured from two pieces of solid hardwood face-glued together — a construction method that allows the profile's distinctive radius top to be shaped with precision and consistency across the rail's full length. Designed for interior use.
Why Hard Maple?
Hard Maple is the hardest and brightest of the widely available domestic hardwood species. Its creamy white to pale light-tan tones and an exceptionally fine, uniform grain bring a sense of precision and openness to the handrail — well-suited to Scandinavian-influenced, contemporary, and light-filled interiors. With a Janka hardness of 1,450, Hard Maple is one of the most wear-resistant domestic hardwoods available — standing up to the consistent friction and handling a handrail receives with exceptional durability. Its fine, closed grain means oils and dirt are less likely to penetrate the surface, and it accepts clear finishes and light stains beautifully. Hard Maple gives you a handrail that stays cleaner, lasts longer, and maintains its bright, precise character through years of daily contact.
